(Luxapool Chlorinated Rubber only)

Sound old Epoxy coatings? Yes

Concrete Shell? Yes

Can you paint epoxy over chlorinated rubber or visa versa?

No, you must use epoxy if the pool was previously painted with epoxy, similarly with chlorinated rubber.

How do I test a previously painted pool to find out whether it can be overcoated with epoxy?

Simply rub the existing paint with acetone on a rag, if the paint softens and becomes sticky, it cannot be painted over with an epoxy, but probably can be coated with Chlorinated Rubber. If the acetone merely removes some oxide and does not soften the paint, you can use epoxy. Test the pool in a number of areas to ensure all layers are the same.

How much paint will I need for my pool?

  • We would always recommend LUXAPOOL® Epoxy where possible, as it will provide better performance, longer life and thicker finish.

  • Allow a little more materials when estimating to allow for surface roughness, wastage, etc… rather than run short. We will refund for any unopened & undamaged tins.

Is chlorinated rubber swimming pool paint "rubbery" and flexible?

Although chlorinated rubber is more flexible than epoxy, it is still quite hard & glossy and should not be considered as a flexible membrane.

My pool is leaking, will the epoxy or chlorinated rubber bridge across cracks?

No, if the pool is leaking from visible cracks in the pool surface, these must firstly be repaired by an professional repair company, before painting.

Will my pool lift out of the ground or crack if I drain it?

Usually all pools are built with a hydrostatic valve in the deep end of the pool, which will allow water into the pool should the ground water pressure be great enough. Usually the ground water will not come into the pool, unless the pool is in a low lying area, river bed or subject to tidal water flows. If a small amount of water is coming in through the valve, remove the top of the valve and fit a approx.1m long PVC pipe over the valve outlet, the water will rise up the pipe until the pressure is equalised. Sometimes simply the weight of a brick will be enough to stop water coming in.

How long will the swimming pool paint last?

Given proper preparation , application and strict control of chemicals & water quality at all times, Luxapool Epoxy should last at least 8 - 10 years, in a light colour, (proportionately less for darker colours) and will only oxidise &/or wear through in this time. Chlorinated Rubber should last  3-5 years, in a light colour (proportionately less for darker colours).
Automatic cleaners such as Kreepy Krawleys ®, Barracudas ®, etc.. will decrease the overall wearing life of swimming pool paints especially on the floor.
